Dockside Crane Operations Grab Duties

To teach the operators to safely operate the Dockside Crane (Grab Duties).

On completion of the course, the operators will know: 

• Their statutory requirements under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
• The machine identification, terminology & daily maintenance
• The safety aspects relating to the usage of this type of crane

The duration of this course would depend on the delegate’s skills and previous training and experience.

• Section 2: General duties of Employers
• Section 7 & 8: General duties of Employees
• Powers of the Inspectorate
• The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (an overview)
• The Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (an overview)
• British Standards: 7121 Part 1 – Safe us of cranes

INTRODUCTION TO DOCKSIDE CRANE:

• Identification of Crane & Terminology
• Controls & Warning Devices
• Daily Maintenance
• Pre-start Checks
• Starting up procedure
• Close down procedure

PRACTICAL CRANE OPERATION: (NO LOAD SITUATION)

• Safe access to crane cab
• Start up procedure
• Use of controls: Hoist – Lower – Slew – Luff – Brakes – Limit Switches
• Use of Radius Indicator
• Positioning of Crane in relationship to ship
• Mode of discharge or loading

GRABBING CRANE OPERATION: (LOAD SITUATION)

• Pre-start checks
• Positioning of crane to take the load
• Setting up the crane
• Taking the loads
• Use of all motions Hoisting, slewing, luffing, maneuvering, lowering
• Positioning the load
• Setting the load down

CLOSING DOWN PROCEDURE: 

• Travelling to position
• Park crane
• Neutralise crane
• Fault reporting
• Assessment
• Course summary & close

A certificate is awarded on successful completion of the Dockside Crane Operations Grab Duties course.
